The Reckless Kiss

The reflection in the mirror was pitiful. There were blue bruises on his cheek, and his chapped lips left dried blood stains in the corner. He hissed as he applied the ointment his secretary had bought for him. As he stared at his reflection, his mind drifted back to the punch he had taken last night.

Chansel sighed. Last night, after he saw Sarah in the middle of a kiss with another man, he immediately got out of the car. He didn’t waste any time. He threw a punch. Chansel wanted to hit every guy who dared put his dirty mouth on his girl’s lips.

He wanted to go berserk like a raging bull to protect his mate. Unfortunately, he miscalculated. This guy turned out to be quite skilled and retaliated after he managed to land a blow on his cheek. With a single retaliatory blow, his body staggered and fell to the road. But Chansel got back up and lunged forward. He crushed the man’s jaw and made a loud cracking sound.

“What the hell did you do?” Sarah’s voice at that moment made Chansel want to sulk and tell her that the guy had dared to hit him.

But Chansel refrained. Sarah’s eyes were on him, but not with the usual gentle gaze. There were accusations and judgments in those eyes. He wanted to explain that he did it to defend his girl from a stranger’s kiss. Unfortunately, while Chansel was distracted, another blow landed and hit his left eye. Once again, the blow caused him to fall backward.

“That’s enough, enough!” Sarah grabbed his arm.

His eyes darted as Sarah’s hand wrapped around his arm. The girl pulled him until he stood. Sarah looked at him once more and gave him a look that was even more intense and accusing than before. Anger and disappointment were reflected in those eyes. Chansel couldn’t stand to be looked at like that.

“Honey, it’s me. What’s wrong with you?”

“Honey? Are you kidding me? We’re over, Chan. Don’t tell me you forgot?”

Chansel’s fingers twisted as Sarah said they had indeed ended things. His fists were clenched, and his glazed eyes stared back at the man. His throat was dry, and he could not find the strength to answer Sarah’s question. He hadn’t forgotten; he just couldn’t believe that their relationship was over.

“I’m hurt, and you…”

Chansel couldn’t finish his words when he found no trace of pity in Sarah’s eyes. The love for him had vanished. It left no trace in those eyes. He licked his lips, a brief taste of saltiness on the tip of his tongue. After that, Chansel chuckled. He secretly admitted all his foolish actions.

Sarah’s forehead furrowed as the man next to her prepared for another duel. Chansel was sure that Rik, or whoever he was, would attack immediately if provoked. This person wouldn’t care if Sarah stood right before him. This guy wouldn’t hesitate to push Sarah. Yes, no one could treat Sarah as sweetly as he could. Unfortunately, the girl hadn’t chosen him.
